Perhaps this isn't as much of a problem as I think it is, so if any Gmail users have a solution, please help prevent my further suffering.
My problem is this: when I go to send an email from the "Compose Mail" function, I cannot easily view my contacts and insert them into the "To:" box. I have to guess at names and start typing them in. I know I have the option of first going to my Contact list, and then selecting which recipients I want to send a message to, and then composing my message, but the problem is that I often don't think of adding recipients until after I've composed my email. At that point, it's too late to go into my Contact list and select recipients.
I think Gmail is wonderful in all other aspects, but this has been a longstanding problem for me. Does it keep me up at night? Not usually. But it's something I'll gladly vent about.

I wish I could help you with this one, but I haven't jumped on the Gmail bandwagon yet and still cling tightly to my hotmail account. Guess I need to finally make the move too!
I don't blame you for not leaving Hotmail. I still keep my Hotmail account for the messenger, which we use in the office. Also, I could insert my contacts after composing a message with Hotmail :)
I just start typing the person's name. When I push the letter "L" you and anyone else's name who has an L in it comes up and I just click on the one I want. I don't know if that helps your problem. :)
It helps if I know who I want to email, but sometimes my mind goes blank and I forget important people :( So then I resend the email I already sent, but I BCC the ones I forgot, so they don't know they were forgotten :) Of course, now they probably know my scheme.
Lee- I didn't realize that was a problem on Gmail till you brought it up! You may want to send Google feedback on this problem in the Gmail support page. They're pretty good about making ehancements.
As for making the hotmail switch, I've completely switched over, but I have to check hotmail once in awhile since some people still send me mail using that account.
I find hotmail a 'bulky' email client especially when accessing on a mobile phone. Gmail loads very fast and is a lot easier to use. Just my $0.02.
Google is with out a doubt a very forward-looking company, and their mobile support is just one good example of that. the first time I saw a coworker's blackberry using google maps to display his GPS-fixed position on a city map in real time, I was hooked...
